What We Do

The Mary Tyler Moore Vision Initiative is a one-of-a-kind non-profit uniting the world in the fight against vision loss and blindness from diabetes.

What We Do

The Mary Tyler Moore Vision Initiative (MTM Vision) enables significant research breakthroughs and supports global scientific collaboration to realize Mary’s dream of a world without vision loss and blindness from diabetes.

While we have made progress in preventing vision loss and blindness from diabetic retinal disease (DRD), it remains the world’s leading cause of blindness in working-age adults.  Every person with diabetes is at risk for vision loss and blindness. Through our research initiatives and patient-focused approach, MTM Vision is leading the charge toward a world without vision loss and blindness from diabetes.

What We Do

We are...

Alerting the public...

to the threat of vision loss and blindness from diabetes.

Raising awareness...

that the current medical tools that measure, diagnose and assess DRD severity are outdated and inadequate.

Identifying new ways...

to diagnose and better assess DRD severity and emphasizing the need for new treatments to prevent vision loss and blindness.

Catalyzing cures for DRD...

by providing eye samples from human donors for study, conducting detailed analysis of these samples, sharing the data, and undertaking clinical trials to identify new paths for progress.

Pioneering scientific breakthroughs...

to accelerate the development of next-gen treatments for the hundreds of millions of people worldwide with diabetes to prevent and cure vision loss and blindness.

Bringing together people and families...

with diabetes and scientific experts from all sectors to form a global collaborative with a single purpose: to preserve and restore vision in people with diabetes.
