Our Partners

The Mary Tyler Moore Vision Initiative (MTM Vision) has engaged expert scientists and clinicians worldwide and has partnered with leading academic, research advocacy, and entertainment industry institutions. Founded by Mary's husband, Dr. S. Robert Levine, to honor her legacy of research leadership, our partners include JDRF (formerly the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation), the University of Michigan's Elizabeth Weiser Caswell Diabetes Institute and the Kellogg Eye Center, the Beetham Eye Institute, Joslin Diabetes Center at Harvard Medical School, and the Entertainment Industry
Foundation (EIF).

Elizabeth Weiser Caswell Diabetes Institute (CDI)

Elizabeth Weiser Caswell Diabetes Institute (CDI)

The University of Michigan (UM) is a global leader in diabetes research. Central to this effort is the Elizabeth Weiser Caswell Diabetes Institute (CDI), renowned for its cutting-edge research. CDI administers three NIH Center Grants, the UM JDRF Center of Excellence, and the Brehm Center for Diabetes Research, all focused on defeating diabetes.  In collaboration with the Mary Tyler Moore Vision Initiative (MTM Vision), CDI coordinates the MTM Diabetic Retinal Disease (DRD) Research Consortium. This partnership advances international collaboration, including pre-competitive efforts by academic and pharmaceutical industry scientists, which is essential in gaining a greater understanding of DRD at the cellular and molecular level.

The UM Kellogg Eye Center

The UM Kellogg Eye Center

The UM Kellogg Eye Center is a leader in vision science, fostering collaborative research since 1985. The 2010 establishment of the Brehm Tower has furthered joint diabetes and vision initiatives, pushing treatment boundaries in a state-of-the-art facility. In association with CDI, the Kellogg Eye Center houses the MTM Vision Ocular Biorepository and Resource Center (MTM-BRC), essential for DRD research and understanding the condition’s cellular and molecular mechanisms.

The combined efforts of the CDI and the Kellogg Eye Center support MTM Vision’s goal to eradicate vision loss from diabetes and serve as a testament to our united global commitment to improving healthcare for people with diabetes.

Beetham Eye Institute, Joslin Diabetes Center at Harvard University

Physician-scientists and clinical researchers at the Beetham Eye Institute of the Joslin Diabetes Center have pioneered sight-saving treatments for people with diabetes, including laser therapy for advanced complications and identifying critical therapeutic targets. The Joslin Vision Network (JVN) offers validated retinal imaging and clinical services to prevent vision loss and blindness from diabetes. Joslin Diabetes Center, affiliated with Harvard Medical School, is one of only 17 NIH-designated Diabetes Research Centers in the United States. As part of Beth Israel Lahey Health, it aims to expand access to excellent care and advance medical science through research and education.

JDRF

JDRF

JDRF is the leading global organization harnessing the power of research, advocacy, and community engagement to advance life-changing breakthroughs for type 1 diabetes (T1D). JDRF works every day to change the reality of T1D for millions of people—and to prevent anyone else from ever knowing it—by funding research, advocating for government support of research and new therapies, ensuring new therapies come to market and are recommended by healthcare providers and connecting, engaging, and educating the T1D community. Mary served as International Chairman of JDRF from 1984 to 2017, and her husband, Dr. S. Robert Levine, served on the JDRF International Board and played a leading role on numerous Board Committees, including Research, Government Relations, Communications, and Clinical Affairs.
