The Mary Tyler Moore and S. Robert Levine, MD Charitable Foundation continues the work that Mary and Robert started in their volunteer leadership of JDRF, and their many contributions of talent, time and treasure in support of diabetes research. The Mary and Robert’s foundation is a founding partner and key financial supporter of the Mary Tyler Moore Vision Initiative and has made possible its creation and early accomplishments. The Mary Tyler Moore Vision Initiative is a separate non-profit entity which can accept donations from the public. The Mary and Robert’s foundation also continues to support other charitable purposes that were dear to Mary in her lifetime.

The University of Michigan (UM) is a global leader in research into the causes of and potential treatments for diabetes, its complications and related diseases, with over 300 faculty performing studies related to diabetes and it complications.

UM Elizabeth Weiser Caswell Diabetes Institute (CDI) supports rigorous science and its integration with patient-centered clinical care, and leads the way to prevent, treat and cure diabetes, its complications, and related metabolic diseases. Under the Institute’s umbrella are 3 diabetes-related NIH Center Grants, the UM JDRF Center of Excellence, and the Brehm Center for Diabetes Research. The CDI serves as the administrative home of MTM Vision providing coordination and support with the collaborating centers and programs not only at UM but with our collaborators around the world. With a home at the CDI, MTM Vision also benefits from the vast resources and world-renown experts of the University of Michigan.
UM Kellogg Eye Center a leader in the field of Ophthalmology. Created in 1985 it consolidated all UM departments doing vision-related research and clinical care under one roof. In 2010 the combined Brehm Center for Diabetes Research and Kellogg Eye Center Expansion (Brehm Tower) co-located diabetes and vision researchers in one building creating the interdisciplinary environment that cutting edge research requires. The Kellogg Eye Center also houses a state-of-the-art clinical research facility where novel drugs, devices and therapies can be studied with the engagement of research participants.
